A ceasefire between Ukraine and separatist rebels began last night and appears to still be in place, after a five-month bloody conflict left more than 2,000 dead.
The deal began at 6pm local time after being signed in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, by Kiev, Moscow and the Russia-backed separatists, as well as the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
As part of the agreement, all heavy weaponry is to be withdrawn, more than 1,000 prisoners released and humanitarian aid sent to the epicentre of the fighting in eastern Ukraine.

My Comment: To impose these sanctions now .... with a ceasefire trying to take hold in Ukraine .... this is not going to help the situation at all.

Plowman you're thinking that these of all people would have a realistic world view. They really believe that it's their moves and words that constitute the major reason this cease fire has occurred and they want to have the last word. If they do this Putin will extract a price for it, maybe not here, but somewhere I promise it.
I concur remember the shoots in Sarajevo. I also are seeing many reports tickin in that the ceasfire is slowly but surly getting broken, there is now fighting in Mariupol again. Both Ukrainian media and seperatist media is reporting on it.
Japan went to war with the U.S. because we embargoe'd them.
Specifically, we embargoed scrap iron. the only person to vote against War with Japan fervently believed this.
I believe that the embargo was the proximate cause of the war. We would have been at war with Japan sooner or later due to the militaristic government of Japan. Maybe it would have been after they attacked the Dutch East Indies and Britain. maybe it would have been after they consolidated their gains. but we would have been at war.
Some people argue that embargoes are hostile acts and casus belli for the embargoed. If true, then what do we have left in terms of diplomacy besides asking them if they want to play nice?
