Exclusive: Islamic State Guides Egyptian Militants, Expanding Its Influence -- Reuters
(Reuters) - Islamic State, fighting to redraw the map of the Middle East, has been coaching Egypt's most dangerous militant group, complicating efforts to stabilize the biggest Arab nation.
Confirmation that Islamic Sate, currently the most successful of the region's jihadi groups, is extending its influence to Egypt will sound alarm bells in Cairo, where the authorities are already facing a security challenge from home-grown militants.
A senior commander from the Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, which has killed hundreds of members of the Egyptian security forces over the last year, said Islamic State has provided instructions on how to operate more effectively.
"They teach us how to carry out operations. We communicate through the internet," the commander, who asked to remain anonymous, told Reuters.

Just to ask, is there any proof that the seperatists in Ukraine are locals? Since many western sourches say that the majority are Russian terrorists. Would be nice with links to newspapers or other sources prooving that the majority of the seperatists are locals.
Talking about percentages is not easy. It's almost impossible to talk about exact numbers, but it's true that a big part of the rebels are from Russia. Here is a nice video about some volunteers from Russia (turn on the subtitles on YT for English ): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4TfQmPT8-k
There are a lot of Russians outside of Ukraine who are involved in the civil war. But .... until July .... the bulk of the fighting has been done by locals. Now .... everyone is involved.
mlacix,
I liked the video. I didn't turn the sub titles, I preferred to just listen and watch. There is a universal language among the world's soldiers (spoken and body wise) and it came through on the video.
What did you observe James? Did they have a high or low morale? I think high but i may be wrong.
Good morale, new and only slightly used gear (wear and tear from getting there, probably), haven't seen real action yet. I would say they are soldiers not militia. They behave like they are familiar to each other used to working together. This indicates they are from the same unit. Note: when the guy in the back whistled and waved to some one else that it was time to go, there was no bitching, grumbling, or disorganization, they went.
I just looked at the video now. They are Russian .... the accent is from the southern part of the country .... not the clean version of Russian in the north .... and not the Ukrainian version. The guy who whistled .... you are right James .... he is the commander/NCO. I would say that they are not militia .... but there was one or two there who made me wonder if they are locals who are directing the soldiers to where the fighting is. Damn good video mlacix.
Now to compare some other unit of the separatist forces with the first video above, here is another one, where actually fighting going on. I'm curious for what you think about it, and what differences you spot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofEm_Y2ELNA
mlacix,
Again no sound for me, besides I rely on WNU for language, geographic, and ethnic translation. At the start I think it was a lot of first time militia (later you could see some gray hair) with a sprinkling of regulars. A lot of milling around with the "what am I supposed to do look". It also seems to be the first time most of these guys have been shot at.
I'm not all that impressed with whoever it was they were shooting it up with, probably a patrol that wandered into town. Remember the guy on the APC screwing with the flag for an eternity in the wide open? Apparently they weren't that worried.
All in all it seemed to be a bunch guys learning how to be soldiers the hard way. Notice all that crap in the beginning of running out in the street to cut a half a clip down range, the running back and forth exposed in the street, the milling about close to each other, that seemed to die away later on (it'll put your ass on the meat wagon in a hurry).
Should be magazine not clip, I'm getting old and addle brained.
