Islamic extremists in Syria and Iraq could be defeated within six months if Britain and America sent in ground troop, ex-army chief Lord Richards has claimed.
The former head of the Armed Forces said it was 'naïve' to think ISIS could be overcome without 'boots on the ground' and greater involvement by western armies.
David Cameron has ruled out using ground troops in the conflict, as ministers stepped up calls for Turkey to step in to defeat forces threatening a key town close to their border with Syria.

Update: General David Richards: We Could Beat Isis In Six Months With Boots On The Ground -- Huffington Post
My Comment: I am sure that if the U.S. and Britain .... along with a dozen allies .... assembles a force of about 100,000 men .... they can easily kick the Islamic State out .... but defeating the enemy has not been the problem in the Middle East. The problem has always been .... what to do after .... and to make sure that you do not become the focal point of resentment from all of these sectarian groups (new and old) .... that in the end .... only act to begin the entire cycle again.

Bollox to that assessment!
What would happen is that boots on the ground would only accomplish scattering ISIS to the winds. I'm talking sectarian conflict on a scale that would be immense, and guerrilla warfare that would dwarf the Iraq/Afghanistan causalities.
It would possibly accomplish the demolishing of ISIS main assault and stratagems, slowing or annihilating their frontal main attacks, but it would certainly not kick them out, if anything, ISIS would scatter and bury themselves in for a long conflict.
And I would certainly wager it would take more than 6 months to do it.
Sure we could defeat the overt military presence in a short time.
But until you go into radical mosques throughout the world , you will not defeat a bunch of chauvinists, who believe wrongly that they have a better socioeconomic system. We know those are off limits. the mosques will just regenerate them regardless if any or all terrorists groups are wiped out. The political elite are not like Jimmy Malone. they are not prepared to do much.
At any rate it will be over in 2 generations as they have 3 or more kids and you have your 1.5 kids. Your kids will read Heather has 2 mommies in school won't they?
