Ukrainian nationalists have hurled smoke canisters and stones at riot police during clashes outside the parliament in Kiev.

Violence erupted when the protesters demanded that MPs pass a law to recognise a World War II nationalist group which opposed Soviet forces.

Fifteen policemen were injured and at least 50 protesters had been arrested, the Ukrainian interior ministry said.

MPs did not vote to recognise the wartime Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).

Most of the crowd has now dispersed. Police used batons in the clashes and linked arms to protect the parliament.

The nationalists are not going to do well in the upcoming parliamentary elections .... and they know it.

Well, "their guy" is now the new Defense Minister.

The Far Right has little interest in winning elections. They do not need to when with internal deals and intimidation, they can get appointments to key Government positions.

You are right Jay. I forgot about the appointment of the new defense minister. They may not get their parliamentarians voted in, but they keep on getting the key posts .... and that is where the real power resides.

The appointment of the new defense minister is also all about internal Ukrainian politics (something that I am getting more and more sick of everyday) .... http://www.themoscowtimes.com/article/509341.html

I wanted to do a post on this appointment a few days ago .... but family responsibilities got in the way. Suffice it to say that all eyes are now on the elections, and Poroshenko has now positioned himself to win big.
