President Obama Promises A More Aggressive Response Against Ebola. Orders The Establishment Of Ebola 'Rapid Response SWAT Teams'

Obama Promises Ebola SWAT Team In 'Much More Aggressive' Response To Deadly Outbreak, Admitting The CDC Hasn't Done All It Could To Stop The Spread In US -- Daily Mail

* President promises Ebola 'rapid response SWAT team' from the CDC to 'go in as soon as a new case is diagnosed'
* 'Much more aggressive' promise is similar to CDC chief Tom Frieden's pledge on Monday to 'double down' – insisting his agency wasn't already pulling out all the stops
* Obama was slated to travel to NJ and CT for Democratic Party events but canceled them for an all-hands-on-deck cabinet meeting
* He said he had personally hugged and shaken hands with nurses who cared for Ebola patients, insisting that the risk is minimal
* Congressional sources worry that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention isn't up to the job of managing the Ebola outbreak response
* With a third US diagnosis, Frieden has gotten poor reviews by insisting that the chance of widespread US infections is minimal
* A House aide said Frieden 'is a fat-taxing, anti-tobacco Michael Bloomberg-type guy ... This is the guy who's supposed to be the voice of reason?'
* It was also revealed Wednesday that Obama ignored the CDC's request to set up 18 global disease-monitoring stations when he took office in 2008
* Today there are only 10 of these facilities, and none of them are in West Africa

President Barack Obama pledged on Wednesday to approach new cases of the Ebola virus in a 'much more aggressive way,' signaling that his administration hasn't already been doing all it can to slow the advance of the deadly contagion.

As pressure grows on the administration to explain how it has failed to contain the disease in Texas, the president said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would launch a 'rapid response SWAT team' within 24 hours whenever a new case is confirmed.

The CDC team, he said, will 'take local hospitals step by step through what needs to be done.'
