With Kim Out Of Sight, North Korean Top Brass Pay Snap Visit To South -- CNN

Seoul, South Korea (CNN) -- With Kim Jong Un out of sight for a month, three North Korean officials popped down to South Korea for a last-minute visit Saturday.

And they delivered a diplomatic bonbon.

The three officials told South Korea that Pyongyang is willing to hold a new round of high-level meetings between late October and early November, South Korea's Unification Ministry said in a statement Saturday.

"Within my memory ... there was never ever such a high-level visit. Never," said North Korea analyst Andrei Lankov, from Seoul's Kookmin University.

Lankov said two of the three visitors "are essentially number two and number three in North Korean official hierarchy."

Right behind Kim, the "Dear Leader" himself.

My Comment: What's my take .... this is unprecedented .... something big is happening. My "second Godfather" is Korean who has very close ties to people in the South Korean government .... he told me this afternoon that the expectation (right now) in Seoul is for a major North Korean announcement outlining a shift in policy towards the South. He is 80 years old and he has seen it all when it comes to North Korea .... but he is excited with the prospect that both sides may start having a meaningful dialogue for peace. In my case .... when it comes to North Korea I am always deeply skeptical .... but tonight I will confess that I am hopeful that the first steps towards a rapprochement are actually taking place.

I think Kim has fallen. It's a good chance a power struggle is happening. This meeting I think is along the lines of "if we bring the North in from the cold, what kind of amnesty deal can we get. The one to watch very closely in the next few weeks is China. Must have a really bad ankle problem.
