American airstrikes took place in Kobane this morning, targeting Islamic State militants who have advanced into the suburbs and look set to seize control of the Syrian city itself.
Despite promising not to let it happen just days ago, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan this morning said the fall of the city is imminent, adding that airstrikes will not be enough to stop ISIS.
Erdogan said more ground troops are required to defeat the militants and that rebel factions must unite to thwart the otherwise inevitable capture of the city; suggesting Kurdish fighters who have bravely battled ISIS in recent weeks are unlikely to be able to hold out much longer.
The Kurdish resistance defending Kobane earlier vowed to fight ISIS to the death, saying they will do their utmost to prevent the Islamist 'monsters' massacring the city's 40,000 civilians.
