the U.S. has been paying money since North Africa in 1942.

If a a vehicle hit a donkey and killed it, they would pay so much. there was a schedule of payments based on various factors (source WW2/ military history type magazine).

I don't know what we did in France when we "liberated" the Hell out of various towns with artillery. There must have been road accidents there too. Plus there was various crimes committed by soldiers some of whom were executed or imprisoned for them. In those cases I do not know if the civilians were compensated.

You linked the Daily Beast story on drone spotters.

It was the best article I have read on drone by far. Thank you.

I follow the list of drone strikes at Long War Journal, which shows a different picture that some in the 4th estate paint.

I am reading about some Combat Outposts (COPs) that got hit in Afghanistan via "the Captain's Journal" blog. Nuristan seem totally effed up. Good intent, too few resources and the Taliban really were scum of the earth.

My point is if someone similar write ups are done on each drone strike as in the COP after action reports, it will be interesting, lead to better debate or no debate at all.

I am not real fond of the Haudramaut. Supposedly people like Osama can find the customary hospitality there. I would give them hospitality out of fear. Some people in the Haudramaut may be doing this as well. But if we changed the names to Butch Cassidy or something would we give the same pass on hospitality?

Out of the drone attacks I wonder how many are really civilians. It could be as high as 90%. There will always be collateral damage, We should work to minimize it. But some people whole thing is the collateral damage. I can't stand such Johnny One Notes.
