Ukraine Says Rebels Get Reinforcements, Shelling Batters Truce -- Reuters

(Reuters) - Kiev accused separatists of preparing for renewed conflict in east Ukraine on Tuesday by bringing in "Russian mercenaries" and rearming as heavy shelling increased strains on a crumbling ceasefire.

In Berlin, the European Union's foreign affairs chief said the bloc's foreign ministers would discuss new punitive measures against Russia next week, but German Chancellor Angela Merkel ruled out further economic sanctions for now.

Shelling around Donetsk, the main rebel stronghold, and artillery exchanges elsewhere punctured a truce that has been violated by what Kiev says are armed Russian incursions, and what the rebels call a new offensive by government forces.

WNU,
Do some or a lot of the cities in (East Ukraine) have trolley car systems?

Here I found this video from vice news: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMKmL9nwOPA&list=UUZaT_X_mc0BI-djXOlfhqWQ

How the firefighters in Donetsk are doing, the firefighters even showed some of the Ukrainian artillery bullets. Just to ask what is smerch? Since he showed some very huge rocket like thing that he said was Smerch. Also do you know anything about the bomb that was detonated in the bar in Kharkov?

Thank you Jay, seems these rockets can carry cluster muntion. I am unsure if the ones one the video carried it but it wouldent shock me that Ukrane has used that in this war. Just to ask what does the UN classify Smerch as? On wikiepdia its heavy rocket launcer since I dont know what the ammuniton will be classfied as, will it be classified as rockets or artillery?

Rhaegar,

It is generally classed as heavy artillary, as it fires unguided rounds, in salvo's.

It is considered to be an "indescriminant" weapon, and with or with out cluster rounds, it's use against polulated areas is considered a possible war crime.

Thank you for the video Rhaegar. Simon Ostrovsky has been doing some good reporting on the conflict in eastern Ukraine. And yes James .... trolley cars are a common thing in eastern Europe let alone Ukraine.

Thank you for the info Jay. Also do you have any info about the ukrainian government using phosphorus bombs? And are there any information of the seps ceasing weapons from the cache near Sloviansk? I heard it was mentioned i may that the seps comtroled it and that there was ca 2-3 milion shooting weapons in it some from WW1 but mostly cold war era Kalasnikovs. But after the separatists retreated it has been silent, did the separatists take any of the weapons? Since this case was mentioned in the guardian one time but it has been silent in a very long time and the seps had some time.

Rhadgar,

There is no confirmation of either side using WP rounds against populated areas.

There also is no confirmation of what happened to the Solidar Salt Mines weapons depots, other than that the Federalists held the cache, early in the ATO.

Thank you good to know. Just asking what do you use as sources? Since you are very updated and give very good answers.

Also why do you call the separatists Federalists? Its not so important since they have soo many different names but i am just curious of your opinion.

Also you mentioned in a post some days ago that you watched some of their live streams, where do you find them and how good is the quality? Also are they in english with subtittles or are they just in russian?

Rhaegar,

I read a lot, watch a lot, research alot, just out of interest.

Early on in the Civil stages of the conflict, in the East, some were seperatists, some wanted union with Russia, some wanted to remain in the Ukraine. The one thing they all agreed on, was that they wanted a Federal system, where the Oblast's Governments, were elected locally, not appointed by Kiev. That was a root cause of the Looting of Ukraine, and local dissent, that and the Anti-Russian Ethnic prejudice in Kiev.

NovaRussia TV, Colonel Cassad and other's have You Tube presence, some, with english captions. Google Givi, or Motorola.

Again thank you. Also do you know some details of the bomb that went of in Kharkov? What type of bomb was it etc. Also how strong does the separatists stand in Kharkov? Are there any local support or are the locals mostly pro ukrainian?

When do you think a new separatist offensive will begin? I know there are escalating battles and troop movments on both sides, but I am unsure if it could take days, weeks or months before the civil war resumes. Also if there is a new offfensive what do you think Poroshenlos reaction will be?

Sorry if I ask too many questions.

Rhaegar,

At this time, the Karkov Pub Explosion is "undetermined", might be a gas leak, land mine or hand grenade, based on the number and extent of the injuries, I'd guess gas leak at this time or a disruption grenade.

There is support through out the East for the Federalists, there are even DPR fighters from Karkov, but "support" is a far cry from "support". There are many who want the "benifits" but arn't willing to fight for it, just as with the Ukraine Army, with out conscription, only the Punative Battalions, numbering a few thousand, would be in the fight.

IMHO, if the Federalists attack, they will be limited in scope, just trying to achieve the seperation the Minsk Agreement was supposed to deliver. The moves of recent days makes it appear more that the Federalists are staging for defense, and are blustering to stop any Ukrainian Army attempts to restart the ATO.
