Al Qaeda Plot To Blow Up 5 Passenger Planes In Christmas 'Spectacular' -- Express
TERRORISTS are plotting to blow up five European passenger jets in a Christmas "spectacular", security experts say.
The threat has been taken so seriously it came close to leading to an outright ban on all hand luggage, a senior insider has revealed.
Mobile phones and electronic devices could still be banned from plane cabins, with the threat of a 9/11-style coordinated attack on London and other major cities feared imminent.
The warning comes as Whitehall officials admit that a terror strike on the UK is now "almost inevitable" particularly with British jihadis returning from fighting alongside the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
An airport security source told the Sunday Express: "We've been told that five planes are being targeted in a high profile hit before Christmas. They've been waiting for the big one.

My Comment: I have a bad feeling about this .... intelligence agencies and governments are clearly worried about what may happen during this Christmas period.

I'd be very much interested in the stats of Air Marshall's and whether or not there has been a substantial increase.
I get the impression that isn't the case though.
I recommend we all stay terrified for another 13 years over something that might (not) happen.
There are half-cocked terror plots dealt with every day and the security agencies don't go on a media tour advertising that we need to be extra-frightened this month or that month every single time. Only when the politicians want to grease the wheels of legislation does the order come down to needlessly start spouting off about what the bad guys might do some day and create a hysteria. Like the story blogged about immediately following this one: the Oprah Bombing of 2009. There was no purpose to serve by advertising it at the time so the story just went into the pile of 10,000 other national-security threats that turned out to not materialize that day. Wasn't there an imminent al Qaeda attack planned this past summer that our intelligence agencies confidently assured us was based on good intel? It was in intercepted conference call between the Legion of Doom itself, as the mainstream pundits portrayed it, with Zawahiri and Wuhayshi sharing congratulations over the now-unavoidable destruction of American freedom. When in fact, the story was about a thread on one of the Jihadi message boards that are easily accessible online to anyone, and which are monitored in real-time by our security services 24/7, where some punk kids were dreaming of what they'd do to America if their mom would let them go on Jihad instead of doing homework.
These stories serve no purpose.
