My Comment: I do not know how long the Russian government can keep this up .... but as long as there is little if any opposition from the Russian public (and a good portion of the Russian public is remaining quiet on this buildup) ... this Russian military buildup and modernization program will continue.

This year, Russia, all in, spent less than 1/10th what the US did on the Military, in direct spending.
If you include the Special Amendments for GWOT, etc, then that number drops to 1/30th.
The Russian Economy is 1/8th the size of the US's.
I know Jay. Throw in NATO and all the other countries that support the U.S. .... this Russian military buildup pales in comparison. That is why there is little opposition to this buildup in Russia .... most Russians know that it is small when compared to what the U.S. and NATO are now spending.
When you add in to the Modernization, the better pay, the better pensions, the better education, the factories that were idle for years, this is an important internal driver, ( a form of State Socialism) for the Russian Economy.
In the US, a huge chunk of this same form of socialism, stays st the Corporate and Shareholder level, only.
Absolutely Jay. Russia's military/R&D plants are in Moscow and Saint Petersburg (at least the ones that count) .... and they are booming right now ... hiring people left and right .... and they pay extremely well.
As for where is the U.S. spending their money .... I sometimes wonder.
In the US, it's "redistribution", upwards.
