How This Murder Case Almost Directly Impacted Me .... But In A Way It Did

Luka Magnotta Guilty Of 1st-Degree Murder In Jun Lin's Slaying -- CBC

Jurors in 10-week trial in Montreal found 32-year-old guilty of killing university student, other charges

Luka Magnotta has received an automatic life sentence for first-degree murder, with no possibility of parole for 25 years. He was sentenced to another 19 years for the four other charges he was convicted on.

Quebec Superior Court Justice Guy Cournoyer gave Magnotta the maximum sentence on the four lesser charges, to be served concurrently with the first-degree murder sentence.

Magnotta closed his eyes and showed no emotion after the jury foreman read the highly anticipated verdict in a Montreal courtroom, announcing that the eight women and four men deciding his fate had found him guilty on all charges.

My Comment: With the end of this case I can now come forward .... I was summoned (along with many others) to appear at the jury selection process to be examined if I was a viable candidate to serve on the jury for this case. I got exempted because his first lawyer (Jeffrey Boro) is also my lawyer who assists me when I need him to draw up business contracts and agreements ... talk about living in a small world. I also got exempted because I mentioned to the court that I was angry that parts of Jun Lin's body (his head) was dumped at Angrignon Park .... a park that is not far from where I live and one that I am always walking through for relaxation and meditation. After being excused by the court I did not think much about the case .... it was background noise to me. But in the past few days .... with the jury sequestered away .... my focus has shifted back to the case. Cannot explain it .... I guess it is because this case raised to the level that the international media had to cover it .... even though there is enough evil and brutality in the world that one murder in Montreal does not even come close to the level on what is happening "out there" .... but it did. I guess the reason why there was so much international coverage is because where I live is probably one of the safest places in the world .... and if it could happen here .... it can happen anywhere. Sadly .... this is probably true.

The case is now over .... and everyone will forget about it in the next day or two. Everyone with the exception of Luka Magnotta who will now spend the rest of his life behind bars .... and for the parents of Jun Lin .... who will grieve for all time with the knowledge that their son moved to Montreal for a better life .... but ended in the tragic manner that it did. And as for me .... there is a part of Angrignon Park that I now never walk through.

It's always tough.

Kid I grew up with in highschool, killed his family, ( one sister survived).

The darkness of the human condition is unmeasurable.

On a macro scale it is entirely predictable.
