Over 80% of Russians Back Putin Despite Economic Turmoil: Poll -- Sputnik

Despite the volatile economy and sanctions, Russians' support of President Putin has considerably surged since 2012. Two-thirds believe Russia is moving “in the right direction” in international relations.

MOSCOW, December 18 (Sputnik) — Despite the economic downturn in the country, the approval rating of Russian President Vladimir Putin has surged to 81 percent, an increase from the 58 percent he received at the beginning of his third term, a poll released Thursday by the Associated Press (AP) and NORC Center for Public Affairs Research revealed.

The AP-NORC Center survey, conducted from November 22 to December 7, is based on more than 2,000 in-person interviews of Russians aged 18 and above.

My Comment: I am not surprised by this poll .... among my family members, friends and associates, acquaintances, etc. in Russia .... a few hundred people in total .... I am the only critic of Putin and the only one who is REALLY deeply worried on the direction that Russia is heading. But even with this public voicing of support for Putin .... I have noticed that everyone that I know in Russia are now also preparing themselves for hard economic times .... and while Putin has tapped into this sentiment by admitting it, as well as reassuring everyone that life will get better in two years .... many are telling me that they are skeptical that such a promise can be fulfilled.
