Poll: More Americans Think CIA Program Was Justified Than Not -- Wall Street Journal

Pew Research Survey Finds 51% Think CIA Practices Were Warranted

WASHINGTON—Americans who believe the Central Intelligence Agency’s post-Sept. 11 interrogation and detention program was justified significantly outnumber those who don’t think it was warranted, according to a poll released Monday.

A survey conducted by Pew Research Center found 51% of Americans think the CIA practices were warranted, compared with 29% who said the techniques were not, and 20% who didn’t express an opinion. A majority of those polled, 56%, believed the interrogation methods provided intelligence that helped prevent terrorist attacks.

I had to Google that one Jay. LOL

But on a serious note .... I am surprised by this poll number. With all the negative news on torture, and the constant barrage in the main stream media on why torture is wrong .... a good part of the American public appears to be not buying it.

Because it's the plot of every Movie and TV show, and it fits with American prejudices.

Gallop did a poll in the late summer. American perceptions of the violent crime rate ( 11%) perfectly matches the TV Violent Crime rate (74%), and while the real violent crime rate is falling, (-18% a year/decade), most Americans think it's climbing, because it is on TV shows.

So true Jay .... the impact of culture should never be underestimated .... and the media does carry a lot of clout and influence.
