Russia Displays Air Defense Systems Amid Ukraine Tensions -- Reuters

(Reuters) - Russia displayed its mobile air defense missile systems in central Moscow on Monday, underlining its military might amid tensions with the West over Ukraine.

President Vladimir Putin said last week that Russia would have enough resources and resolve to protect it from what he described as enemies seeking to dismember the country.

Mounted on dark green military trucks, the S-400 'Triumph' and Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile systems, as well as the Kasta radar station, appeared outside the capital's huge Russian Army Theatre.

My Comment: I have a condo a few blocks away from Red Square .... and over the years when I stay there I have seen many military convoys, parades,  and exhibitions. But it has been a long time that I have seen something like this .... and shown in such a public matter. I guess the equivalent would be a Patriot missile system being deployed in Central Park, or one near the White House and/or Pentagon ... it is something that you do not see everyday.

I used to visit D.C. a lot and almost every year the military would bring out its best to show Congress and Mall walkers what is had in its arsenal. One year I operated a mobile antiaircraft rocket with the help of the Army technician who manned the exhibit. Using the infrared display, I locked up a large commercial airplane over in the direction of National and then was told if this was the real thing I would pull the trigger and the plane did not have a chance.

Have not seen the yearly display since 9/11.

I wonder what the Russians would think about the display I mentioned?
