Why don't they go ahead and publish where they're based, when they go out, how many are going, how they are going, where they are going, where their families live etc. I mean really, if you're going to be transparent, be transparent. And while you're at it go ahead and award any citations and medals now and get that over with after all Nobels are given before hand, what's would be the problem with DSO's, VC's, etc.
It be a bit of a morale buster to go on a dangerous mission James, and find out you've just been awarded several citations and medals before hand... That sinking feeling of 'I'm not coming back' would start to set in...
I was being a little tongue in cheek. These guys now know that they are also the hunted. The golden prize for ISIS would be to capture and publicly execute a SAS operative or American SOF.
We used to have a saying when we were going somewhere and the bad guys were alert and waiting "Our sh*t's all f*cked up now".
