U.S. Accuses North Korea For Ordering The Cyberattack On Sony

U.S. Said To Find North Korea Ordered Cyberattack On Sony -- New York Times

WASHINGTON — American officials have concluded that North Korea was “centrally involved” in the hacking of Sony Pictures computers, even as the studio canceled the release of a far-fetched comedy about the assassination of the North’s leader that is believed to have led to the cyberattack.

Senior administration officials, who would not speak on the record about the intelligence findings, said the White House was debating whether to publicly accuse North Korea of what amounts to a cyberterrorism attack. Sony capitulated after the hackers threatened additional attacks, perhaps on theaters themselves, if the movie, “The Interview,” was released.

My Comment:  The U.S. has lost this cyberwar, and they are now openly admitting that they are powerless to stop North Korea. The result of this successful cyber attack is now all but predictable ... expect more cyber attacks from countries who have an "issue" with the U.S..

The " proof" of the "Russian" cyber attacks in the summer, consisted of a Moscow time code on the hack,

Like hackers can't spoof a time code, and that there arn't 99 other hacker havens southward, that don't have thr same time code.

Curiously, the only "run" on the Corporate hacks, was Credid Card mimic's in Seoul, ( same time stamp), but that was little reported, as it doesn't fit the "meme".

Look, this isn't the US losing the Cyberwar, this is SONY losing the cyber war.
They targeted a private company, and they probably used some sort of spearphishing or targeted human engineering to gain access. This isn't a state shutting down the electrical grid, it's a country going after a Japanese-owned subsidiary on US soil.
There's a world of difference.

Interesting take on the time stamp Jay, some of my more knowledgeable programming/computer friends are telling me the same thing.

Trevor .... I am saying what the U.S. government is saying .... that they are powerless to stop it (so far) .... so in this context the hackers won. But yes .... I know a little about computer network security .... Sony made it too easy.

The server password, was "password".

My 12 year old niece could have hacked Sony.
