WNU Editor: With the fall of a major Nigerian base in this part of the country .... Boko Haram does not only have more (and better) weapons .... but there is now no one there to stop them. My gut is telling me that violence and destruction is happening on a massive scale in this part of Nigeria ... and the full extent of it will be known in 3 - 4 days.

Understanding the roots of a conflict, and the history of an area, is pretty much the only way , if you are going get involved, as the US will, to have an effective impact.
In conflict zones, like Nigeria, the past wars always shape the current wars, more so when they are less than a generation apart.

I would not expect a land dispute in the American West to be excessively couched in terms of agriculturalists and pastoralists.

On a similar note the conflict in Dharfur gives lie to it as well.
