Sam Roggeveen, The Interpreter: China cyberspies target more than just F-35
WNU Editor: In every conflict since World War II the U.S. has dominated air space .... a critical component of this domination has been its tanker fleet and its ability to supply U.S. fighters and bombers with fuel. The Chinese know this .... and as the Edward Snowden leaks reveal .... they are listing these tankers as high military targets in any future confrontation.

Could be just a standard study of "operational behavior" intelligence task. But there are not that many reasons out there to order that tasking.
It's not just the tankers, especially in the Pacific, the tanker chain gets the fighters, the Bombers, the Joint Rivets and the AWACS to and from the "battle " area. Plotting the tanker path, plots the strike path, and possibly allows a counterstrike, prior to aircraft arriving in the battle area.
This sort of Elint, is the stuff that only " we" used to do.
That's what I meant Jay, I just put it rather poorly. That is what I meant by operational behavior study, doping out the entire system and how it works. To be honest though, I'm not particularly interested in the "nuts and bolts" part anymore. It just kind of bores me.
