Kurdish Forces Have Recaptured The Strategic Hills Overlooking Kobane From The Islamic State

BBC

BBC: Kobane battle: Kurdish fighters 'capture strategic hilltop'

WNU Editor: This is a major setback for the Islamic State .... and one in which they have lost a lot of soldiers. But the battle for Kobane is one of many battles that are occurring throughout Syria and Iraq, and in those battles the Islamic State has shown it self to be a resilient and formidable foe that is reluctant to lose territory, while being aggressive to conquer new territory.

To be more accurate, what IS has lost (at least since October) in Kobane are a lot of expendables; the 'Chechens' and other experienced fighters are being used to consolidate gains and expand territory elsewhere in Syria.

It wouldn't be surprising if IS was using Kobane as a boot-camp of sorts. Survive and show a bit of skill doing so, and you're sent elsewhere.
