Speaking of the Artic Mr. WNU, we have some more of your rather nasty Celsius business down here again.

Do not complain James. On Thursday it hit -27C in Montreal .... -38C with the windchill. Up north in my chalet at the Laurentians .... my neighbor told me it hit -33C with a windchill at -41C. But here is the funny part .... yes there is a funny part .... when it hits temperatures like that up north (and with no wind) .... it is incredibly beautiful. The air is crisp and fresh .... and there is nothing but complete and utter silence. I can talk across the lake to my neighbor who is 1/2 a mile away .... and we can hear each other .... that is how silent it is.

I have a little experience, years ago in Montana I had to spend most of my time working off the back of a horse. We worked in one area 30+ miles and two thousand feet above the ranch house, where it was -38F for a couple of weeks. I didn't need a conversion chart to tell me we were in the "too cold to cuss range".

But I bet that it was a "dry cold" in Montana. :)

Some more tidbit of info .... in my opinion Canadian winters are worse than Russian winters. My worst experience was in Labrador City (Newfoundland) in January .... -38C.

Dry, wet, Canada, Montana, C or F -38 is god damn cold. The leather britchens (straps) would freeze to the pack animals and if you weren't careful when you took them off, the animals hide would peel right off with them.

Ouch!!!!

There is a positive note to the cold .... http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2015/01/08/a-blast-of-cold-jump-starts-fat-burning-and-generates-body-heat/

HAH! You can always count on the Post to on top of the great events of the day. Speaking of breaking news, due to the inclement weather there are rumored outbreaks of violence by hordes of angry Texas golfers, will report more as the facts come in.

Don't be fool by those "indoor golf ranges". We have them here, and (in my case) they definitely do not satisfy the hunger. On the bright side .... 3 and a half more months before the opening of gold season (I hope).

Update#1 Texas golfer unrest: Reports are flooding in of improper relief being taken, indiscriminate grounding of clubs in hazards, large mobs in carts screaming Mulligans now, Mulligans forever.

Update#2 Texas golfer unrest:
Unconfirmed reports of looting of Dairy Queens and IHOPS as far west as Odessa/Permian and north as Plano. The situation is described as fluid.

Update#3 Texas golfer unrest:
Statement from the Texas Rangers; "As of last night most if not all of the golfers have returned to their ancestral lands of retirement villages and gated communities. Local courses have come to a "free range agreement" with them and local Dunkin Donuts, Ihops, and Dairy Queens will give group discounts on coffee before tee times. We feel that these developments and the coming of better weather mean that the worst is over and the citizens of Texas can once again go about their business in safety. We remind the general public though that these golfers can be very dangerous as they are well armed with Callaways, Pings, and polyester. If seen they are not to be approached or asked to play through. Thank you
