Ukraine Army Retake Donetsk Airport. Have Launched A Massive Assault On MIlitia Held Areas. Residential Areas Of Donetsk Now Under Constant Bombardment

Bloomberg: Ukraine Forces Retake Most of Donetsk Airport, Government Says

WNU Editor: Some Ukrainian news outlets are boasting that this is the biggest tank attack since WWII .... Ukraine army starts active operations. Biggest tank attack since WWII (ZIK.ua) .... on Ukraine soil this is probably definitely true. But what is more ominous is that I am reading reports that the Ukraine Army now has orders to resume active military operations .... in short .... the ceasefire is now OFFICIALLY dead. Expect the conflict and the heavy bombardment of the cities to escalate, and what concerns me even more is what will Moscow now do .... they are denouncing the bombardment of the residential areas, but I suspect that they are going to respond in kind .... so expect reports of heavy bombardment of Ukraine military positions in the next day or two (if not already). I also expect the casualty count to sky-rocket .... winter battles always bring about high casualties .... and I also expect the humanitarian crisis to for over a million civilians trapped by the conflict to now become dire.

Somebody somewhere thinks they can win this thing now, or they believe they must win this thing now. I wonder who it is calling the shots and which of the above do they believe?

James ... the country is not only deeply divided in the east where the fighting is raging .... but it is also deeply divided within the Ukraine government itself. Depending on the day .... one of these factions asserts itself and has influence .... and when that fails, it is another group another day .... and when that fails .... well, you get the picture.

The fall of Donetsk's airport on Friday galvanized the pro-war faction .... and for the moment they are running the show with Ukraine President Poroshenko's blessing and with the support of some European countries. Tomorrow .... that is probably going to change.

WNU,
What is Poroshenko's personal constituency?

Russia is going to kick their teeth in now. Why do these fools not realize they cannot win militarily. Poroshenko has said exactly that more than once.

James .... Poroshenko got elected because the alternatives were far worse than him. He also outspent them in advertising .... combined. But flash forward to today .... he still has a lot of support from a lot of people who are clearly worried that if the extreme nationalists do come to power and are successful in consolidating their control .... it will result in perpetual warfare against Ukrainian Russians, and the accompanying economic suffering. Most see him as the best from a slate of incompetents .... and that is his constituency.

That is probably no base of power at all. The money that was spent, do you think it was his, in country associates, or from out of country?

I was told it was mostly his. Many in Ukraine's political and economic elite wanted him to run, including my cousins who were hopeful that he would stop the slide to civil war, but all of them are now having buyers remorse.
