Sputnik: Ukraine Signs Agreement to Create Military Brigade With Poland, Lithuania

Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania are set to create a joint military brigade to conduct military operations around Europe.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed the law to ratify an agreement between Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania to create a joint military unit, the so-called Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian brigade, Poroshenko’s official website reports.

Update #2: Ukraine okays formation of joint military unit with Poland, Lithuania -- Xinhua
Update #3: Poroshenko signs law on creation of joint Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian brigade -- Kyiv Post

WNU Editor: They are saying publicly that this brigade was created for the purpose of participating in international operations carried out on the basis of a UN Security Council mandate .... of course ... considering what is happening in eastern Ukraine .... some are also wondering if this will lead to Polish - Lithuanian participation in the Ukraine conflict.

Well i guess the plane crash from a few years ago that was carrying all the hierarchy polish politicians including the president .. who were all anti euro and anti nato worked out real well for something like this to take place ..

Err?

There's certainly nothing that indicated that President Kaczynski was anti-euro or anti-nato. He was pro-western and even sent a military contingent to aid NATO troops in Iraq and he favored developing stronger strategic ties with Ukraine.

"Indeed, the leadership has now changed in Poland and it looks like a pro-euro political leader may replace Kaczynski. “Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s pro-euro Civic Platform party is likely to cement its grip on power in a presidential election that must now be held by June after President Lech Kaczynski died in a plane crash,” reports Bloomberg today.

Poland and Italy were the only two countries in the EU to threaten to veto EU climate change plans.

Two weeks before the horrible plane crash involving the Polish Government and its finance head, the IMF visited Poland. They remarked that Poland was the only prosperous country in the EU, and also the last member signing into the European Union. They were wanting the Polish government to embrace the Euro as the sole unit of money, even though the polish Zloty has grown in value against the sinking Euro. And now a nation’s military heads and government have been deposed at one fell swoop.

None of what your saying points to an anti-euro and anti-nato polish president.

I get that the likes of Donald Tusk is most definitely more pro-EURO and his policies often met with resistance, but it doesn't suggest that the President and ALL those on the plane were strongly anti-nato and anti-euro.

Hell, take the Lisbon treaty for example. I know quite a few pro-euro fanatics who hated that treated because it was just terribly written and all round bad. It doesn't make them anti-euro.

Anyhow... I seriously hope your not on the verge of suggesting that Russia got a bunch of 'fog machines' and decided to smear Smolensk in dense fog and then crafted up a clever conspiracy along with elements within the Polish government to kill off a wide range of high ranking individuals in a conspiracy that has more holes and more variables than a slice of swiss cheese...

Condescending attitude aside and no counter to the Swiss cheese label ..
Anti euro does not mean they were enemies ..

From before the "accident"

The PiS has joined the "Union for Europe of the Nations Group" in the European Parliament, a grouping of parties skeptical of the prospects for European integration. Lech Kaczynski is seen as a euroskeptic, and has made no bones about his dislike of the proposed European constitution

WNU,
Though I'm very busy at the moment, this really caught my eye. I may have mentioned before that I expected an overt Polish involvement about this time, but I'm a little surprised at Lithuania's joining of this enterprise and in a such a public fashion. This to say the least is very ominous. Poland has been an overlooked story in all of this considering it's historical ties and involvement in western Ukraine. WNU, what if any are the feelings on the ground in western Ukraine about Poland?
