Wall Street Journal/The Australian: Iraqi Christians take up arms against Islamic State

HUNDREDS of Christian men are picking up rifles for the first time at a former US military facility in the hills of northeast Iraq and training to reclaim their towns from Islamic State militants who stormed the country last year.

Well from what I've understood the U.S. was actively preventing the creation of Christian militias in Iraq. And with the rise of the IS it's taken this long for what's left of the christian community to organize resistance.
