Is This The Next Great War?

Julian Snelder, National Interest: The Next Great War: America vs. China?

WNU Editor: Are the regional alliances and grievances of China and its Asian neighbors the same as the regional alliances and grievances of World War One .... I find that a bit of a stretch. But I give credit to the author for looking at the similarities .... and appreciating the need for a rethink on how to counter China's claims and actions in the future.

I fail to see why China needs the South China sea for oil.

You can buy oil. People are actually happy to sell it to you.

If you buy a lot a lot of a natural resource like oil, you trade balance might suffer. That is a big consideration.

However, Singapore & Switzerland have nearly zero natural resources, yet they thrive. It might be hard to scale up their success.

The only way it works obviously is with productivity. For the most part people are productive when they area allowed to be and/or want to be. To do that the elites have to only skim so much or people put it into neutral or as close as they can and survive or they go black market.

If the Chinese export enough with enough value added, the oil imports do not matter so much.

Goliaths do fall & China is making a lot of enemies who are impotent currently, but it need not remain so.
