Moscow And Nato Remain On A Diplomatic Collision Course

The Independent: Ukraine crisis: House of Lords criticises EU and Britain for 'sleepwalking into crisis' as Moscow and Nato remain on diplomatic collision course

The fraught relationship between Russia and the West, which was supposed to improve following an agreement over Ukraine, has descended instead into renewed acrimony after a series of tense military and diplomatic confrontations.

France and Germany, which had brokered the Minsk accord last week, were yesterday trying to hold together the increasingly fragile ceasefire in Ukraine amid reports that fighting was spreading once again. Kremlin-backed separatists and Cossack fighters triumphantly paraded through the shattered town of Debaltseve, a strategic point they had captured in the past 48 hours.

WNU Editor: Diplomatically .... Russian - NATO relations are in "the toilet" .... and these relations are probably going to be there for a long time. As to this escalating into a military confrontation, the Estonian PM says it right .... Russian Attack On NATO Would Be 'Insane' (SKY News) .... in short .... it is not going to happen.

The Russian military is the most powerful in the world. In contrast, the US military has been worn down to the point where even basic national defense is problematic at best from fruitless nation building operations around the world.

As such, it seems the Estonian prime minister is insane for believing that NATO membership is the best security guarantee in the world today when the opposite is true. Such membership only serves to inflame Russia and make the attack much more likely.

"...in short...it is not going to happen." Very respectfully such a statement would require evidence to support it. Such evidence is severely lacking. After all Russia is the most powerful military force on earth. As such, it would seem that pushing them over Ukraine or pretty much anything else would only guarantee such an attack would occur. When it does, America would bear the brunt of the attack. Since EU nations are not going to be the primary targets, its been relatively easy for them act tough in this whole process.

Much more factual information could be presented here but it would require more characters than is allowed!!

The dynamics in Estonia are not the same as in Ukraine ... and that is what gives me hope that a repeat is not going to happen.
