Reuters: Angelina Jolie aims to recruit academics to fight sexual violence in war

LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie said she hoped Britain's first academic center devoted to women, peace and security studies would benefit millions of girls, like an Iraqi teenager she met who had been kept as a sex slave by Islamic State.

WNU Editor: Since the beginning of this blog I have always advocated that sexual crimes committed in war zones should be considered as a war crime and that the leaders and military commanders whose soldiers have committed these crimes be held accountable for what they have done. We are still a long way from that .... but .... Angela Jolie's support and work to get the discussion going is a positive sign .... and for that I applaud her.

I do not think a premier or president should go to jail for what 1 soldier does.

Now if there is an official or unofficial policy or they semi-consistently turn a blind eye to reports or confirmed rapes, then they should be prosecuted.

Question:
How many people n the UN will go to jail for the rapes by a considerable number of UN peacekeepers in the Eastern Congo?

The war there is not all that hot so where is the stress and where are the investigations?
