BBC: Russia's Vladimir Putin says war with Ukraine 'unlikely'
The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has said war with neighbouring Ukraine is "unlikely", in an interview for Russian television.
Mr Putin also stressed his support for the Minsk agreement as the best way to stabilise eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine has said there is clear evidence Russia is helping the rebels in the east, something Russia denies.

Could this be finally the step down Putin is executing for his domestic audience? I've always believed that even he does not care for the excessive costs of the eastern Ukraine revolution. Crimea was a separate national security issue. He will be a national hero when the West ends its sanctions in return. Maybe it's time for a statue of Putin?
I would not put a statue of Putin .... but we are at a crossroads right now, and the crisis in Ukraine is continuing.
jimbrown,
It's not a step down for Putin, it's just a statement of the realities:
- NATO won't go face to face with Russia over the Ukraine, no matter how much the MSM yells, screams and op-eds,
- arming the Ukraine will not change the situation on the ground in any way shape or form, and most promises of arming the Ukraine are just empty threats, if Russia wanted to, it could take Kiev in a week.
- when push comes to shove on the Ukraine, the EU will cave.
So, no need to fear a Nuclear War breaking out over the Ukraine.
WNU Editor,

Jay .... because the IMF has not given any money to Ukraine (as promised) .... they instituted even more currency controls today. Not surprising ... a few hours later I hear about concerns that the war is about to flare up again, and Ukraine will not withdraw their heavy weapons or soldiers. The economy over there is a total mess, and i cannot help but feel that the war is Kiev's way of diverting people's attention away from unemployment, inflation, and cutbacks on services.
I have not seen that YouTube video .... I will be watching it tonight. Thank you.
WNU Editor,
The Nationalists could have chosen peace, but, instead, they chose War.
When you craft a War Narrative and sell it as an Existential Struggle for the Nation, ( Ukraine vs. Russia, Glory to the Ukraine),
Rather than a Rebellion or Revolt,
You create a Trap for yourself.
You can't later negotiate your way out of the conflict, because it exposes the fact that you could have avoided the conflict in the first case, by negotiating,
And all that death, loss, damage and destruction, could have been avoided,
And those that have suffered, struggled and lost, won't take that kindly.
So you need to double down, triple down on War, until you either " win" or "lose".
Social media has the DPA moving a column of 8 tanks, ( including the latest Ukrainian T-72's, still in UA camo), 16 BPM's, 4 BTR's, 6 antitank guns, 20 trucks towards Mariupol, so that's at least one armoured Brigaide.
Media also has the UAF staging towards Artyamolvsk, so it looks like the UAF is going to try to take Debaltseve, and when the Republicans block and break that strike, they will counter by taking Mariupol.
