Ukraine Remembers The Maidan 2014 Killings

Euronews: One year on, Ukraine remembers Maidan’s bloodiest day

One year ago Maidan Square in Kyiv transformed from a protest site into a killing ground. Over three days up to 100 people were shot dead as riot police clashed with anti-government protesters.

After months of protests, confrontations erupted on February 20, 2014. Security forces and anti-government protesters clashed in Independence Square in Kyiv and shots were fired. By February 20, the death toll had reached 100. Demonstrators blamed government snipers, while President Yanukovych blamed the protesters for stoking the violence. The controversy continues, as the head of Ukraine’s security forces, quoted on Ukrainian news agency UKRINFORM, said that Vladislav Surkov, a close ally of Putin was involved in managing groups of snipers.

WNU Editor: A year already?!?!?!? Where did the time go? My cousin's daughter was a block away from Maidan Square on that fateful day last year .... she was helping in the production of Molotov cocktails and assisting the wounded. She mentioned to me on that day and the following days that she saw the a number of protestors armed and firing at the police, and while she did not see the police firing back .... she did see wounded and dying protestors. She also strongly believes that there was a third group firing at both the police and at the demonstrators .... but who they were is something that she and her friends do not know even today.

On a side note .... Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is now claiming that Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov was involved in coordinating the sniping that occurred on that day .... but I find that to be a stretch. Vladislav Surkov plays an important role in Putin's inner circle .... but it is on government/political policies and election strategies that he is a specialists on .... not national security affairs .... and definitely not being involved in a covert operation in another country. But as a top Presidential aide his presence would be at all of these meetings and it should not be a surprise that he would be aware of what was happening .... but actually implementing and coordinating policy .... no .... that would go to someone else who will have some distance from the Kremlin.

WNU Editor,

If Porshenko says it, well it's guaranteed not to be true,

Andblook at all the wonderful achievements and reforms accomplished in just one year.

Oh yeah, and my uncle's step son from Moscow told me that he personally saw Russian OMON policeman armed with sniper rifles that day in Kyiv that day. He personally saw them fire at protesters... What a credible story... just like RT news line... And on the side note Putin is a professional KGB officer. His people, I would assume, are similarly trained and just as ruthless. You are talking about covert operation in another country? Putin organized an open occupation of another country!!!

Anonymous ... you are clearly new to this blog. Go back to last year and to all the posts that were made at the time .... it gives a rather detail account on what was happening on each day ... and no ... I am definitely not a fan of Yanukovych or Putin.

WNU Editor,

The #1 rule of the Web, is "do not feed the trolls".

More so when they post "anonamous"ly, and offer ludicrous hearsay as agitprop.

For those on both sides, heavy invested and heavily propagandized, publishing anything but the party line, trying to be informed, makes you an "enemy".

I know Jay ... I do have a rule to never respond to anonymous comments .... but I have just finished talking to a friend in Kiev .... she just lost her job and she does not know what to do and her frustration just rubbed off on me.

WNU Editor,

Sorry for your friend, it's often hard to remember the rules, of not posting angry, or drunk.

When I respond to trolls, I always try to just make fun of them.
