Bloomberg: CIA Director Says Assad’s Collapse Would Risk Terrorist Takeover
(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. doesn’t want to see Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government collapse and create a vacuum for Islamic State and other militants to take over, Central Intelligence Agency Director John Brennan said.
When asked whether he fears what might follow if Assad’s regime collapsed, Brennan called it “a legitimate concern.”
“What we don’t want to do is to allow those extremist elements” including Islamic State, Jabhat al-Nusra, and al-Qaeda elements within Syria to seize power from a collapsed regime, Brennan told the Council on Foreign Relations in New York on Friday. “The last thing we want to do is to allow them to march into Damascus.”

What a load, and he said it with a straight face.
I could not have said it any better jay.
What BS ..
When is the western world going to wake up to these lies and blatant deceptions ..
What if the Muslim Brotherhood seized power if the Assad Regime collapsed?
Would they be happy then?
The current regime seemed ecstatic when the MB took over Egypt.
If Assad fell then Iran would have to spend more resources protecting Hezbollah and its other interests and maybe it would fold.
Perhaps the US is just beginning to see that there are problems with creating vacuums.
Aizino,
The Muslim Brotherhood in Syria no longer exists. The members who fled in '82 into exile, still live in exile, in the same London, Paris and Washington hotelsbthey have lived in for over 30 years.
The members who remained in Syria, were trained and armed from 2004 on, and started the armed revolt, are either dead now, or have joined al Nusra and ISIS.
I am not sure of the status of the MB after 2011. I heard a lot about them and then nothing.
You may be right. They may be dead, scattered or subsumed in AL Qaeda.
If you are right, they could still be reconstituted. Not that I advocate that or think it wise. I also consider it extremely improbable.
Maybe if Norse was in charge in Egypt, he might have given them help, but nowadays the MB in Egypt is too stressed to do anything to help.
Aizino,
The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, is not the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, just as the Baathists in Iraq, were not the same Baathists as in Syria.
"Muslim Brotherhood" is/was just a political philosophy, a title, not a transnational movement.
In Syria, the peak of membership and power, for the Muslim Brotherhood was 1980, and at that time, they numbered no more than 60,000 members, that in a country of 22.8 million.
The West always overhype's it's preferred traitors, for example, most of the Press had/has crowned Nemtsov as Leader of the Opposition in Russia, and yet, he couldn't even place third in the race for Mayor of Odessa, his party get's less than 1% of the vote in Russia,
60,000 members? Was that an accurate poll taken by Syrian security forces?
they probably went around knocking on doors a polling people.
For 60,000 people they sure destroyed a town,Hama, and maybe some more.
Aizino,
That was Brotherhood Membership lists.
Look what ISIS has done with 35,000 to 50,000 fighters,
Or back in the day, what 120 Muj. did to Mecca.
And the Muslim Brotherhood was focused on " killing the Regime", so they tried to avoid non-defensive battles with the Security Forces,
Instead, they preferred to send 10 guys at night, to a Government "Official", (Mayor, City Clerk, Fire Chief's) house, to kill the "Official" and rape and murder his family,
Or send 100 guys to a Post Office, Bank, Library, College, Hospital, and kill every one inside.

that is interesting.
Sounds a little like GIA
Or the Algerian Army, or ISIS, any number of groups through history,
The Maccabee's for example, focused around "sectuari's", basically, knife men, who would kill Romans and their families in their homes, offices and the streets.
