Soldier treated for minor wounds received in attack on training base, immediately returned to duty

WASHINGTON—A U.S. soldier received minor wounds in an attack on a training base in central Iraq, the first such injury sustained by a member of the American military since Washington sent troops back into the country last year.

The wounds from the March 11 attack were minor, involving a laceration to the face, said Col. Steve Warren, the chief Pentagon spokesman. The unidentified service member was treated and returned to duty, he said.

“This is the first wound as a result of direct or indirect fire to American personnel in Iraq since this mission began,” Col. Warren said.
