Iraqi Forces With Shiite Militias Launch Military Offensive To Retake Tikrit From Islamic State



Vice News: Iraqi Forces Launch Massive Assault to Retake Tikrit from the Islamic State

Iraqi armed forces and pro-government militias today launched a major offensive to retake Tikrit from the Islamic State extremist group, in part of a push to capture swathes of lost territory.

The assault began early on Monday and included government troops and police alongside allied Sunni and Shia militias, according to state television and other local media outlets. Military jets and helicopters were also reported to be involved, as well as around 30,000 troops.

I find it a little odd that shia's would be so willing to fight for Saddam's birth place.....But there is a small victory in Sunni and Shia playing together.

I think for the Shiite militias .... it is a time for revenge. They are not going to be discerning in their attacks .... and concerns about civilians casualties will be on the bottom of their list.

If that does happen editor it would either be a hollow victory if not a massive failure...if they don't succeed
