VOA Exclusive: Nigeria Brings S. African, Foreign Mercenaries Into Boko Haram Fight

ABUJA, NIGERIA - South African and other foreign soldiers in Nigeria are fighting against Boko Haram, engaging in ground combat and flying combat air sorties, Nigerian soldiers told VOA Thursday.

The fighting comes as the Nigerian government tries to notch battlefield victories ahead of presidential and parliamentary elections later this month.

Nigerian government officials confirmed the presence of foreign military personnel, but said they were only advisers accompanying military equipment purchased from South Africa, Russia and Ukraine.

WNU Editor,

Mine didn't. half the Humbers sold to the Ukraine have been sold on, the other half already killed a Ukrainian soldier by rolling over on a corner.

From the Charlie Heibo guns to T-64BM's, every weapon in the Ukraine is up for sale.

There was an interview with Bezler in the late spring, ( the first DPR Commander with a well armed mitia), and they asked him where he got his tanks, BPM's and AFV's. His answer was that they bought them, and the ammo, from the Ukrainian Army.

Jay .... I should have made myself clearer. I know that everything is up for sale in Ukraine .... I have even been asked by some within my own family in Ukraine if my Chinese contacts are interested in Ukrainian weaponry (I do not touch nor will I ever touch that type of business .... even though I have had many opportunities to do so .... and in Canada of all places .... Jay .... as a fellow Canadian you will appreciate that story ... but this is not the forum to discuss it). I am just surprised that they are selling to Nigeria of all places .... I guess this further validates Viktor Bout's claim that there are no borders when it comes to weapon sales.

WNU Editor,

Remember the ship of Ukrainian T-64BM's grabbed by Somali Pirates, on it's way to South Sudan?
