Poll: U.S. Public Skeptical That A Nuclear Deal With Iran Will Stop Them From Developing A Nuclear Bomb

NBC: Poll: 71% Say Iran Deal Won't Make a Real Difference in Preventing Bomb

Most Americans believe that a nuclear deal with Iran would not make a real difference in preventing that country's production of a nuclear weapon, according to a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll.

Seventy-one percent of Americans say that the nuclear negotiations, which are backed by the Obama administration and strongly opposed by most Republicans, will not make a real difference in affecting Iran's potential production of a nuclear weapon. About a quarter of respondents - 24 percent - disagree.

Update #1: Voters Skeptical on Iran Nuclear Deal, WSJ/NBC News Poll Finds -- Wall Street Journal
Update #2: 71% of Americans, Including 58% of Democrats, Don’t Believe Nuke Deal Will Stop Iranian Bomb -- The Tower

WNU Editor: These numbers are staggering .... even with all the positive media attention for an Iranian nuclear deal, coupled with a constant stream of positive White House updates on progress .... the American public is not buying the administrations line .... including 58% who call themselves Democrats. But even with these poll results I do not think the White House cares .... they are hell-bent on having a nuclear deal right now .... regardless of the opposition.

-Faux News is now the #1 most trusted "news" source,

- 79% of American's can't find Iran on a map of the Middle East,

- only 58% of Americans can find the US on a globe.

Would it really matter if Iran built a bomb?
They're practically surrounded by neighboring countries that have the bomb ..

Meh. They have had access to nuclear technology for what - 50 years ? Not only have they not built a bomb, they co-founded the IAEA to demonstrate they have no intentions of doing so. Plus the NPT to promote nuclear disarmamaent and hosting disarmament conferences in Tehran. Scary. We should all fewar the people without weapons of mass destruction because the people who have them say they are dangerous. ......Riiiight. Odd threat assessment that.

How would you expect a person who grew up in a Democrat City, who cannot read to read a map?

Figure out how many people who are functionally illiterate and you may have a lower bound for the number of people who geographically illiterate.

Then again gangbangers might be illiterate but they know enough geography in what interest them. They can dive to any major city no problem. They have to have some concept of geography. They know what they need to know or want to know.

You can also get a lower bound on how many people know geography. How many people have passports. They are likely to have some knowledge of where major countries are in the world.

I also bet all the throw away people knew geography in grades school before their problems and society problems landed them in a mess.

I can go to Tokyo, Beijing, Sao Paulo and show you hundreds of people that cannot find Iran or many of the other countries in the world. Some of these people will be living in the street under bridges or in abandoned buildings.

"War is how Americans learn geography"

To some extent polls like that are click pate polling and click bait politics.

If the Senate does not ratify a treat it is nonbinding. So the Republican senators are right and the Iranian and Jay are wrong.

All they need is 3 or 4 Democrats. they need 3 Democrats if Joe Biden has a brain. Otherwise they need 4 democrats.

Going back 50 years Iran was ruled by the shah when it was not a threat. it probably joined the IAEA then.

Also in the years after the 1979 revolution the Regime probably had its' hands full consolidating power and then a war with Iraq. It first 7 years of existence stretched is ability to put much into nuke development.

So the 50 year argument falls flat.

How many people want to answer a pollster.

Give the same poll to people and pay them on a sliding scale as to how many questions they get right and a bet the percentage changes.

Time is money and you are taking their time when you ask them to take a poll and giving them know money.

My last 2 surveys (one form the government and the 2nd from Arbitron), they sent money.

I wonder why?!?

Someone said that you pay a barber for their time. Or that it was one way to look at it. If you look at it that way, why give a pollster the time of day?

Aizino Smith When the Shah ruled Iran exactly the same attitude prevailed with regards to the reliability of Iran - though the US took their money before refusing to follow through on a deal to build a nuclear power system in Iran. https://www.transcend.org/tms/2010/05/the-npt-and-the-nuclear-power-trap/ demonstrates how one uses a treaty to promote peaceful use of nuclear power as a tool to harass the signatories, regardless of who they might be.
