A senior Iranian cleric made a vow to 'raise the flag of Islam over the White House' in retaliation for an attack that did not involved American troops.

Ali Shirazi, an aide to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the nation's supreme leader, reportedly made the threat in comments published by the nation's feared Revolutionary Guard.

He said the takeover of Washington would be part of a 'resistance front' led by Iranians in revenge for the deaths of its soldiers, and members of the militant group Hezbollah.

Koranic dudes more often than not go nutty when babbling. Ok. Not good guys. What would you then suggest we do with Iran and its potential nukes? Invade, nuke them, go to war? Tell us the better alternative than what we now are trying...always easy to be snarky

So let me get this straight; you actually believe this clown represents Iran's avowed foreign policy? He was speaking at a funeral for chrissakes.

He represents Iran's official negotiators about as much the Republican loonies in congress represent me and 300 million other Americans.

Ali Shirazi is an aide to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Khamanei has not rebuked him.

This is just more of the same. Many other officials have said the same thing.

Elected officials in Iran are chosen by Khamanei to run for office. In effect Iran is a one party state. So there is a big difference between what an Iranian General, politician or high level aide says and what a Republican says.

Having dealt with the Iranians since the late 70s, it's my not-so-humble opinion that, yes, "this clown" does reflect the Iranian government's viewpoint. We've nearly thirty years worth of public rhetoric that doesn't disprove it.

And, considering that an ayatollah considered "extremist" by fellow religious conservatives was elected head of the council that will select the next Supreme Leader, that isn't going to change for the foreseeable future.

It's my not-so-humble opinion that there are no good options. The mullahcracy wants a nuclear weapon; the capability to rapidly produce one at the very least. They also desperately need an end to (or a significant lifting of) sanctions. The 'realist-school' of US foreign policy has long advocated normalization of relations with Iran and this administration reflects that school of thought.
