Taipei Times: Clapper refuses to discuss PLA threat
TESTIMONY:The US director of National Intelligence did say that China is augmenting the more than 1,200 short-range ballistic missiles deployed opposite Taiwan with DF-16s
US Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday that he could not discuss — in open session — Chinese military expansion and its impact on Taiwan.
He offered to give some details at a future meeting to be held in secret.
Clapper and US Defense Intelligence Agency Director-General Vincent Stewart were testifying on worldwide security threats.
WNU Editor: For his to say this .... it tells me that there must be some disturbing intelligence that he is aware of when it comes to Chinese intentions on Taiwan .... and he does not want the public to know.

If the Taiwanese want to be independent of China, they should be.
If we are worried that confronting China will result in a war that will destroy China and the U.S., why should we be afraid?
Will that possibility be any less probable, if China gobbles up China?
China taking over Taiwan would be similar to Germany taking over Czechoslovakia and getting the Skoda arms factory. Letting the NAZIs get the Skoda arms factor was a good deal was it not? How many Russians died from tank destroyers produced at Skoda? the NAZIs seized enough weapons and equipment to field a score of division or more bother German, Romanian & Hungarian.
I am getting tired of Herr Obama talk about pivoting, pivoting, pivoting, pivoting to the Pacific. We have seen nothing but talk.
Did Michelle sound out a hash tag and all the satellites were deployed to ensure maximum coverage of the hash tag?
His my question. Is clapper keeping quiet because they are working behind the scenes to prevent this and do not want to show their hand?
I suspect the Chinese know what they are doing. I also believe that the bully pulpit is a good way to get the word out, to get the U.S. people behind an ally, show determination & preparation and thus deter aggression.
Maybe the Taiwanese are oppressing some Palestinians and that is why Obama does not want to help?
I would like to see Taiwan become part of China. I would.
But the way to do it is plebiscite. As an analogy 'It is sort of like when God told a biblical figure that they were closer to his house than the man's house". If the political systems of Taiwan (freedoms, socioeconomic level, etc) are very similar, a union could be effected without much notice or fuss at all. It would just seem natural.
Obama has never been tough except, when his opponent has been exceedingly weak. is clapper carrying water for Obama?
You lose an ally like Taiwan, you can not as easily keep the Chinese navy bottled up.
This is not Germany attacking Russian, Japan attacking China or David attacking Goliath. China is the Goliath. To let them get bigger is foolish.
To let them attack a fee people is craven, cowardly & dishonorable.
Couldn't have said it better myself Aizino.
