Fuel Fix: Senators push oil-supply pact with Israel
WASHINGTON — For more than three decades, the United States has pledged to help Israel get crude in case the country’s own oil supplies were cut off.
But a U.S.-Israel agreement guaranteeing that emergency assistance expired last November. And now, six senators are pressing the Obama administration to re-up the deal.
The senators delivered their plea in a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, urging him “to expedite the renewal of this important agreement as a meaningful gesture of support to our friend and ally at this challenging time.”
WNU Editor: The reason why this agreement has not been renewed is simple .... it is not a priority for US Sec. of State John Kerry or for President Obama.

Now this is interesting. The United still supports a large amount of its oil. As such, it would have a hard enough time guaranteeing its own suppliers especially given many of the world's top exporters view America as an enemy. Since we cannot even guarantee our own supply, it seems we would be in position to actually guarantee the supply of another country!! Who made such a deal on the American side?!!? Who expected America would be in any position to honor such a deal on the Israeli side?!!?
Israel is our most important ally. As such, we should do all we can to assist them, however, it seems such dependence is not healthy for the relationship.
We should be studying Russia and China to learn how they do things. Both of these countries have large networks of alliances that are virtually unshakable and make both of these countries nearly impossible to defeat. While I would not expect we could achieve anything like these nations have in any time shorter than a decade, if things went perfectly along the process we might be able to achieve such things in a decade, studying them is a good place to start. After all if you want to be the best, study the best!!
Suffice it to say healthy alliances are not going to be achieved by being dependent on others nor will they be formed by them being dependent on us. Start by studying the Russians and the Chinese and try and implement what we can from them that makes sense from our perspectives and based upon our interests. As said, in order to be the best study the best!!
