Former Blackwater Guards To Be Sentenced For Iraq Shootings

L.A. Times: Blackwater guards to be sentenced in fatal Iraq shootings

A federal judge on Monday was scheduled to sentence four former Blackwater security guards convicted of firing into a crowded public square in Baghdad in 2007, leaving 17 people dead.

The sentences should bring to a close a painful episode in which Iraqis and Americans questioned the morality of the then 4-year-old Iraq occupation and the use of ex-military personnel under loose government regulation to protect U.S. diplomats in the war zone.

Defendants included Nicholas Slatten, Paul Slough, Evan Liberty and Dustin Heard.
