Iran Deploys Warships Off The Coast of Yemen

Reuters: Iran deploys warships off Yemen's coast

Reuters) - Iran sent two warships to the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday, state media reported, establishing a military presence off the coast of Yemen where Saudi Arabia is leading a bombing campaign to oust the Iran-allied Houthi movement.

The Alborz destroyer and Bushehr support vessel sailed from Bandar Abbas on a mission to protect Iranian shipping from piracy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said in comments cited by Press TV.

Saudi Arabia and several Arab allies have imposed an air and naval blockade on Yemen as part of a two-week campaign to oust the Houthis, who have taken most of the country and forced President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to flee to Riyadh.

WNU Editor: When reports started to circulate that Saudi Arabia and its allies were planning to establish a naval/air blockade around Yemen .... speculation on what Iran would then do started to circulate. I guess this is their response to that speculation .... and a direct warning to Saudi Arabia and others that they will not respect any blockade.

We need to pull troops out of Iraq.

We cannot assist Iran in a small way with logistics and intel and not expect retribution against American troops in Iraq.

If Iran is willing to sir up Saudi Arabia's eastern provinces and break a blockade, there is little they will not do.

It was 1/2 expected that Iran would take pot shots at american troops even thought we were helping them with ISIS just to show us who is boss. Is it going to get any better now?

A week or so ago, I said that the Sinai would get hot and problems would unfold in Saudi Arabia. Both happened and it is only going to get more interesting now. Terrorism will become more commonplace in Egypt. Bahrain is going to become more unsettled. Saudi Arabia will pay for Pakistani support/ fighters but trouble will soon hit Islamabad and other areas disrupting their Sunni alliance campaign. This whole area is getting ready to explode! Russia still needs its maritime base in Syria unless offered a new port in Yemen. This is going to get more interesting. Anybody watching Lebanon lately??? What is Hizbollah up to??

I see Hezbollah focused on Syria and Iraq. They are not going to go any where else.

Paranoid much Aizino? You seem awful sure of Iran's intentions, you psychic or something?

Paranoid?

No, it is matter of necessity for Hizbollah.

Sunni help from Al Nusrah would help, Sunni element in Lebanon. Shia are a plurality in Lebanon , but they are not so numerous that they can ignore the Sunnis in Lebanon.

Al Qaeda has already tried to start conflict between the Sunnis and the Shia around Tripoli, Lebanon. It id not work. But Al Qaeda will be back.

Tell me that Lebanon is securely in the Shia camp. Is it based on demographics? Is it based on raw firepower? Is it based on organization and training? fire power can be changed with smuggling.

Does the Lebanese government or Hezbollah have control of Lebanese border? Al Qaeda seems rather far away form the borers of Lebanon around Homs.

But I seem to remember there was a lot of car smuggling from Iraq to Saudi Arabia in 2007.

A car is kind of big thing to move around the desert. Yet it happened.

Maybe those Lebanese borders are air tight except Zahle or whatever town ISIS took for a short while a year ago.

How big of an airlift is Hezbollah going to get to Yemen? Are they going to fly through Saudi airspace or are they going to drive through Saudi Arabia instead?
