U.S. will deploy its best equipment to the region, Ash Carter declares

SEOUL—U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter struck a harsh tone on North Korea in remarks Friday, and said the U.S. would deploy its best equipment to the Asia-Pacific region to address security concerns there.

Mr. Carter visited Japan and South Korea this week to demonstrate the Obama administration’s commitment to its military “rebalance” in Asia. His meetings in South Korea largely concerned the threat posed by North Korea, which greeted his arrival in the region Tuesday by firing two short-range missiles into the sea.
