Pentagon Claims That A Russian S-27 Fighter Almost Collided With A US Intelligence Plane Over Europe

Panoroma: Pentagon claims Russia S-27 fighter intercepts US intelligence plane

U.S. authorities claim that Russia’s Sukhoi Su-27 fighter has flown dangerously close to a U.S. intelligence plane RC-135, Pentagon spokeswoman Eileen M. Lainez is quoted by the Washington Free Beacon online publication on Saturday, according to TASS.

A Russia Su-27 jet fighter flew dangerously close and nearly collided with a U.S. reconnaissance aircraft this week in the latest aerial provocation by Moscow, defence officials said. The Su-27 conducted the close-in intercept of an RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft in international airspace over the Baltic Sea on Tuesday, said officials. The incident prompted a diplomatic protest.

Update: Russian Fighter Jet Nearly Collides with U.S. Spy Jet Over Europe -- Washington Free Beacon

WNU Editor: Coming within 20 feet (if true) is an incredibly dangerous stunt to do. But considering where this reconnaissance plane was (near the Russian military installations at Kaliningrad) ... I guess the Russian military wanted to send a message.

Update: This is not the first time that there has been some "close encounters" between Russian fighter jets and U.S. spy planes .... Confirmed: US spy plane fleeing Russian jet invaded Swedish airspace (RT).

A fighter taking out a spy plane is like a knight taking out a bishop or a rook.

It hurts the other guy more.

Much easier to find another fighter pilot to fly mission than a whole crew of a spy plane IMHO
