New York Times: Russian Hackers Read Obama’s Unclassified Emails, Officials Say
WASHINGTON — Some of President Obama’s email correspondence was swept up by Russian hackers last year in a breach of the White House’s unclassified computer system that was far more intrusive and worrisome than has been publicly acknowledged, according to senior American officials briefed on the investigation.
The hackers, who also got deeply into the State Department’s unclassified system, do not appear to have penetrated closely guarded servers that control the message traffic from Mr. Obama’s BlackBerry, which he or an aide carries constantly.
But they obtained access to the email archives of people inside the White House, and perhaps some outside, with whom Mr. Obama regularly communicated. From those accounts, they reached emails that the president had sent and received, according to officials briefed on the investigation.
WNU Editor: A friend of mine who use to work for RIM (now Blackberry) told me about the security behind President Obama's Blackberry account. Put it this way .... he has a dedicated server that is physically guarded by the Secret Service (my friend did not tell me where ... but I presume that it is in Canada), and the software that is used to protect and insure the privacy and reliability of President Obama's communications is probably at a level that makes it the most secured device in the world. But everyone who works for the U.S. government does not have that level of protection and security .... hence the opportunity for hackers to exploit .... which they did.

President Obama was told to lose the Blackberry back on 2009. He refused and so they worked around him.
So the security experts were right and Obama was wiring.
Who needs enemies, when Obama is your president?
You would be surprised what can be learned from unclassified info. WNU I remember your countrymen vacuuming up all the trade journals they could get their hands on and not for nothing did they do this. Also with this Administration's track record how confident can you be with their judgement of what to classify?
James .... my first official job for the FO was actually doing just that. I would read the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, The Times, and about a dozen magazines (Time, Newsweek, etc.) everyday .... cut out interesting articles .... and have it filed away. It was during this time that I mastered the art of scanning and reading news articles very quickly .... and being able to pick out relevant points. Interestingly .... that training has helped me in doing this blog. I scan about 30-40 news/military/economic websites in the morning .... and I spend the rest of the day posting the stories that got my attention.
In the military people take short classes in security. Nothing that will get you academic credit but mandatory classes with some information.
In such a class they will tell you that you can combine a few or several items from open sources and the resulting document becomes classified.
Which is not news to anyone, who has been in the military. But do the apparatchicks in the administration know this or care if they do know it?
But we will have the Begalas and the Carvilles and others march out onto the TV sets and declare "All is well, nothing to see here and move on".
Aha! I had my suspicions you were the legendary, mysterious, and almost mythical "Evelyn Wood of the Soviet FO"!
James .... I was actually very good at it .... and I loved doing it. As far as I was concerned .... they were paying me to learn about the world .... which I did with gusto. That is why I love the world wide web .... as an information junkie .... I am in paradise.
Evelyn Wood .... had to Google her .... she was ahead of her time.
