The Next U.S. President Will Need To Address The Decline Of The U.S. Military

Matthew Rolfes, Daily Signal: Can the Next President Deliver Better Defense?

There are more than a few signals indicating President Obama has been a poor steward of the nation’s defense.

“Continuing to slash defense invites greater danger to national security while shamefully asking the country’s military men and women to do their jobs with shrinking resources,” wrote the chairmen of the Senate and House Armed Service Committees. “Without a course change, history’s judgment will be harsh, and rightfully so,” they concluded.

Congress isn’t the only one waving red flags. In February, The Heritage Foundation released the 2015 Index of U.S. Military Strength. This comprehensive survey of American military power rated the U.S. armed forces as only “marginally” prepared to defend vital American interests.

WNU Editor: Most of the recommendations that the above author recommends are "management related" .... it avoids addressing the real issues of having the proper training resources and weapon systems to address future needs and what is needed to reverse past draconian cuts in the force structure. I guess it all comes down to money, and is the U.S. taxpayer prepared to dole out an extra $100 to $200 billion a year to have a military that will be second to none. But listening to Washington for the past few years .... I have to say that even if a new U.S. President is elected with a mandate to restore the U.S. military to the "status" it held before .... even a Republican controlled House and Senate will not be that easy to convince.
