Reuters: Ukraine says it will prosecute captured Russian soldiers for 'terrorist' acts
Ukraine on Monday accused two Russian servicemen it said it had captured of being part of a special forces group that had killed and wounded Ukrainian servicemen in fighting in its eastern regions and said they would be prosecuted for "terrorist acts".
The Ukrainians seized on the capture of the two Russians, both wounded, to boost their accusations of direct Russian military involvement in the separatist conflict despite a ceasefire signed in February. But Russia denied any role there.
In a video posted online by the Ukrainian interior ministry, one of the prisoners gave his name as Alexander Alexandrov. He said he had been on a spying mission as part of a 14-member "dirty tricks" group from the central Russian town of Togliatti.
"We were discovered. I was wounded in the leg as I tried to get away... We've been here 4-5 days," he said.
WNU Editor: I have always remarked in this blog that I would be very surprised if Russian special forces/intelligence officers were not present in eastern Ukraine. What I have been surprised is that it is only now that two have been captured .... if Ukraine government reports are to be believed. Will this make a difference in the conflict itself .... no. Most Ukrainians and most Russians believe that there are Russian special forces in eastern Ukraine .... so no one's opinion is going to change on that topic. This is still primarily a conflict between Kiev and eastern Ukraine .... and absent any talks or reconciliation this will only mean a continuation in the war.

Peter,
A common propaganda tactic, is to make bold claims, that garner headlines,
Then just let the initial story fade from view.
All anybody remembers is the headline, which creates an impression of fact, and forms opinion, even if later, the story is quietly retracted.
For example:
http://www.moonofalabama.org/2015/05/nyt-and-kerry-use-retracted-propaganda-claim-to-blame-shame-north-korea.html#comments
thanks for that jay i never believe wot they say about north korea anyway there claims on them are crazy
Peter,
It's not just North Korea that the technique is used on.
The NYT ran a front page "Little Green Man" story in the spring, with "photos" allegedly proving the presence of Russian soldiers in Ukraine.
When the photo's were disproven, they published a semi- retraction, on page 57.

Even Human Rights Watch does it,

You have definitely said " no proof of troops in Ukraine" in many different ways....but I still love you. As far as Jay "Farfetched" though.....I trust his 2 dogs views on world events far more than the garbage he pukes on this board on a daily basis .
so when is a story a story and story not a story if you follow
Travis Farmer,
Upthread, they are having a "We Are The World" singalong,
Maybe you should ioin in.
Peter,
So a story comes out, in the MSM, and what you have to do, is follow the story, through the MSM, the alternate media, local citizen journalists, for how ever many days, months and years.
Eventually, enough truth comes out.
I cannot believe that we are still having this conversation on Russian soldiers in Ukraine .... when the real big story .... Ukrainians killing Ukrainians in a conflict that started when a democratically elected President was overthrown and a new government in Kiev imposed punitive laws on its Russian minority in eastern Ukraine has been sidelined, ignored, relegated, or minimized.
From my vantage point .... which I admit is from Montreal and far away from the conflict ... does also come from my experience of living there, a family heritage and a huge family presence that has made Kiev and the southern city of Bela Crkva its home for about 300 years, numerous contacts in Russia, numerous contacts in Ukraine (on both sides), and what we all read in the press, social media, and see on YouTube.
And what have I seen, heard, and read about .... I can fill a book. But what irks me (this is my Ukrainian side speaking) is that I have lost count on how many foreign soldiers/intelligence officers, trainers, observers, volunteers, and God only knows what else are rpesent in Ukraine right now. Hundreds of U.S. trainers on one side .... Chechen fighters on the other .... even frigging Canadians are over there ... doing God only knows what. And we should be aghast that (maybe) two Russian special forces were captured. As I mentioned in a post today .... and one a few weeks ago .... aside from a platoon of Russian soldiers who were captured (they actually surrendered) near Mariupol last year .... this is the only evidence that the Ukraine government can present after thousands have been killed, more wounded, and a few thousand captured?
The ugly truth is that in this war .... those who are killing and those who are being killed .... the bulk of it by far is being done by Ukrainians on themselves.
The big story is how splintered, divided, and bitter Ukrainians have become against each other. They are angry at Poroshenko, Putin, the rebels in the east, the rebels in the east against Kiev, Nato, Ukrainian nationalists, Russians, oligarchs, corruption, the West, the East, and in many cases .... even among family members.
Unemployment is sky-high, promised Western aid and assistance has not come through .... or very little. The economy has shrunk by 20% since last year .... but the real figure is closer to 40%. The government itself is broke .... and as we are learning from news reports from the West .... just as corrupt as the previous government.
This conflict will not end because of Russia, the U.S., Minsk II, UN resolutions, sanctions, or military aid to one side or the other .... this war will end when Ukrainians sit down and first .... agree to stop the fighting .... and (2) agree to respect the other sides opinion and independence. When that day happens is something that I do not know .... but for now .... expect more stories on Russian soldiers in Ukraine, U.S./NATO soldiers and advisers in Ukraine, a destroyed economy, a hopeless government, and .... more war.
yep the us plans for democracy are great for nations killing there own people really great arnt they everyone who thinks there great there masters of it getn there own people to tuen on each other
WNU Editor,
As long as Internationally, and in the Western Media, the conflict can be sold as an Expansionist Russia vs the Innocent Ukraine,
Rather than a Civil War over Governance, Ideals of Nationalism, Equality and Rights.
There is no need to question the War.
Russia and Ukraine is boring now its just going to drag on till one side gets bored, its tit for tat,wnu ur page is spot on tho love reading it
