Option to challenge Beijing in South China Sea is fraught with danger.
SHANGHAI—After repeated and unheeded warnings to China to halt its massive reclamation works in the South China Sea, the U.S. is contemplating an option fraught with danger: limited, but direct, military action.
By sending U.S. warplanes over artificial islands that China is building, and sailing naval vessels close by—an option now under consideration, according to U.S. officials in Washington—America could end up being sucked more deeply into an increasingly heated territorial dispute between China and its neighbors, say regional security experts.
If such action fails to deter China, America will face a hard choice: back down and damage its credibility with friends and allies in the region, or escalate with the risk of being drawn into open conflict with China.
WNU Editor: China has made it very clear that any U.S. military presence will be a "crossing of the red line" .... With all of these threats Asia is now looking at the U.S. and they are expecting the U.S. to respond .... but this is a dilemma. Failure to do so will mean an incredible "loss of face" .... responding may bring an armed conflict. My prediction is that because of what this naval deployment may entail, the final decision to send a military force will be a Presidential one .... and President Obama will order it ... and it will be an aircraft carrier strike force deployment

The whimper in the White House will back down and risk loss of face.
I'll be surprised if any other decision than that is made.
Yes he will whimper, but he will find Boehner and yell at him. After a good fit, he will strut around as proud a s peacock and the White House will put him on display as virile and in control.
The funny part is that even if Obama really is serious, the mere fact of his waffling reputation after the Syrian fiasco ensures that this won't adequately send any kind of message to anyone except "we're not reliable" to our allies after it fails.
