Want China Times: Beijing deploys maritime surveillance vessels to the waters off Hawaii

Amid tensions between the United States Navy and the People's Liberation Army Navy over the disputed waters of the Spratly islands, China has begun to send maritime surveillance vessels to the waters off the coast of Hawaii as a countermeasure against the US activities in the South China Sea, reports Tokyo-based Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

Senior Colonel Wang Jin from the PLA's Department of Strategic Planning announced that the strategy of coastal defense can no longer serve China's national interests as more advanced weapon systems with a longer range have been developed, during the press conference held on May 26 about the release of China's ninth defense white paper.
