Pentagon: We Did Not ‘Confirm’ Islamic State Has Material For A 'Dirty Bomb'

Daily Caller: Pentagon: We Did Not ‘Confirm’ ISIS Has Dirty Bomb Materials

The Pentagon says it hasn’t confirmed Islamic State militants have captured enough radioactive material to create dirty bombs.

After World Net Daily claimed the Pentagon confirmed the Islamic State obtained sufficient material from Iraqi facilities to create bombs, The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to the Department of Defense for clarification.

A spokeswoman denied the confirmation, speaking over the phone Monday, but came up short of confirming Islamic State doesn’t have any radioactive armaments.

In this case, we probably should believe Islamic State regarding the dirty bomb threat. In fact, it's more likely they along with Al Qaeda, Iran, and a number of other American enemies have long had dirty bombs already in their arsenals. As such, they do not/did not need to recently "acquire" enough material to "create" these weapons.

They already have created them and may already have some in the United States and are simply waiting for the proper time to detonate them in a manner consistent with their strategy and tactics. As such, the idea that are just now acquiring the necessary materials to create them is likely a ruse on their part for some purpose. Perhaps they wish to distract us and get us to improperly focus our resources.

The bottom line is the US government has yet to level with the American people regarding the dangers of Islamic terrorism and the nations who support them. The reason for this is probably at least twofold. 1.)In order for the American economy to function properly there needs to be a certain degree of openness, freedom of movement, and optimism. To be frank a about the threat could lead to mass hysteria and economic collapse. 2.)Anyone who levels with the American people about the threat in a frank and candid manner will generally be attacked viciously by the news media. Understandably some folks and their families would prefer not to be treated in this manner. As such, people who have the information will likely be reluctant to share it.

Essentially given the track record of the US government in this area I'd find the ISIS statement much more credible except I think it probable they already have such weapons and may have already delivered them to te United States.

who set a treshold for the amount of radioactive material needed for a dirty bomb? 40kg of various uranium comounds was acquired when Mosul was taken, I would say that is sufficient. Whether they actually straped explosive to it is moot, they have the materials and capability to atleast make the bomb
