Re-Branding The Russian Army

ABC News: Russian Army Re-Brands Under Putin

MOSCOW — Russia’s president Vladimir Putin on Tuesday opened a massive military expo in a brand new army exhibition center just outside Moscow, unveiling another major project meant to showcase Russia’s armed forces as modern and professional.

In the past five years, Russia has spent hundreds of billions of dollars modernizing its military; this year alone it will spend $57 billion on defense. Much of this has gone towards rearming the Russia’s troops, supplying them with new tanks and armored vehicles.

WNU Editor: A good summary on what the Russian Army is doing.

Russia has built the world's most capable military and it is only getting stronger. America should study this and try to implement what we can. While it would likely not be possible to implement everything they do and some things they do would be undesirable and perhaps unworkable in our system as general rule if one wants to be the best, they should study the best!!

And there, may be the reason Obama won't commit numbers of troops to fight ISIS. No confidence of success, particularly given this enemy has a very high success rate, at least at this point. It would be devastating if ISIS were to overrun and US base.

I don't think the hesistance to place groundtroops is from a fear of being overrun, I suspect that a direct confrontation will dream come true for the US- the danger of the ISIS to potential US troops will be from the sneak attacks like seen in Afghanistan. And the reason no troops are deployed is because the americans are war-weary and dont care about the middle east

Bob, Anon,
I think in way you've both got it right. With the political will, correct ROE, and good strategical insight, it would be a walkover for the US. ISIS's brass ring would be a US soldier's head on video. It would be politically devastating, but if that is something to be accepted to get the job done (re: WWII Pacific campaign) it would avail them little
