France 24: Deadly suicide blast strikes Shiite mosque in Kuwait
A suicide bomber blew himself up at a Shiite mosque in Kuwait’s capital Kuwait City on Friday, killing at least 10 people, according to the local governor. The attack was later claimed by the Islamic State (IS) group.
The blast struck the Imam al-Sadeq Mosque while it was packed with worshippers for Friday prayers, said witness Khalil al-Salih, who is a member of Kuwait’s parliament.
“It was obvious from the suicide bomber’s body that he was young. He walked into the prayer hall during sujood (kneeling in prayer), he looked ...in his 20s, I saw him with my own eyes,” he told Reuters by telephone.
“The explosion was really hard. The ceiling and wall got destroyed,” he said, adding that more than 2,000 people from the Shiite Ja’afari sect were praying at the mosque.
