US Sec. of State John Jerry Flies Back To The U.S. In A C-17 After Breaking His leg

Daily Mail: Air Force for one: Massive military transport plane that usually carries 100 troops picks up US Secretary of State John Kerry to bring him home after he breaks his leg cycling

* Transport plane flew to Geneva Airport to pick up Kerry and flew to Boston
* Landed in Switzerland on Monday after leaving base in Ramstein, Germany
* Carrying 'additional military medical personnel in keeping with standards'
* Kerry arrived on East Coast to undergo treatment for leg at Massachusetts General Hospital

A US military C-17 transport aircraft that usually carries at least 100 troops flew to Geneva Airport to pick up Secretary of State John Kerry and flew him to Boston where he'll be treated for a broken leg.

The Air Force plane touched down in Switzerland on Monday after taking off from a US base in Ramstein, Germany, and then headed to Massachusetts after collecting the 71-year-old politician.

Kerry tweeted out 'big thanks' to his well-wishers and said he looked forward to getting his leg set and getting back to work at the State Department.

WNU Editor: That is one big plane to bring back one injured US Sec. of State.

The military has Lear jets and regular passenger planes as well C17s.

The C-17 will guzzle fuel compared to one of those.

Maybe that is why high profile, impotent politicians like Al Gore and John Kerry like them.

"C-21A Learjet
The C-21A, the military version of the Learjet 35A, provides cargo and passenger airlift and can transport litters during medical evacuations. The C-21A's turbofan engines are pod-mounted on the sides of the rear fuselage. The swept-back wings have hydraulically actuated, single-slotted flaps. The aircraft has a retractable tricycle landing gear, single steerable nose gear and multiple-disc hydraulic brakes. The C-21A can carry eight passengers and 42 cubic feet (1.26 cubic meters) of cargo. The fuel capacity of the C-21A is 931 gallons (3,537.8 liters) carried in wingtip tanks. The safety and operational capabilities of the C-21A are increased by the autopilot, color weather radar and tactical air navigation (TACAN) system, as well as HF, VHF and UHF radios. The aircraft has a crew of two and may be flown from either cockpit seat. It is equipped with an automatic navigation system to enhance crew efficiency. Four cathode ray tubes display essential information to the pilots.

Delivery of the C-21A fleet began in April 1984 and was completed in October 1985. The C-21 (Gates LearJet 35) fleet is dispersed throughout the Air Force and consists of 73 active duty and 4 Air National Guard aircraft stationed at 14 worldwide locations. On 01 April 1997, all continental U.S.-based C-21s were realigned under Air Mobility Command, with the 375th Airlift Wing at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., as the lead command. C-21s stationed outside the continental United States are assigned to the theater commanders"

Fumb Duckers talk up a storm about AGW and then turn around use the biggest, most gas guzzling plane available.

There are several other military passenger aircraft. There may be a few in Europe. It could just be that the only thing available in Europe (Ramstein Air Base) were C-17s.

Someone pointed out that Europe has fine hospitals. The leadership in Europe or America for that matter has to have something better than the hoi polloi.

My gut feel was that maybe just maybe John Kerry injured himself on purpose to get out of negotiating with the Iranians. The Injury will buy him an 1 to 3 months extension or a second string replacement (actually an upgrade perhaps). Failure of negotiations or the signing if a bad deal can be blamed on the 2nd string and thus save John F. Jerry's political legacy for posterity unbesmirched.

If Kerry was so concerned he could have got Air Force 2. It has an operating room,
